Preparing for your photo shoot
If you're having sports pictures taken, make sure that you have your complete uniform, cleaned and pressed. Also, be sure to have all of your equipment clean and available for the photos.

- Stay out of the sun and the tanning salons!
- Get plenty of sleep the night before - no partying. It does show on your face. Eat a good meal prior to your shoot.
- Try on all your clothes ahead of time. Make sure they fit well, are cleaned, pressed and have no missing buttons. Bring colors that look good on you.
- Keep jewelry simple. Big or flashy jewelry may be distracting.
- Watch the fingernails! Be sure fingernails are clean and that polish is fresh. Manicured nails are flattering in the finished portrait on both male and female subjects.
- The selection of proper clothing for your portrait is an important factor in the preparation for a successful portrait. If the clothing is noticeable in a portrait, it could easily become a distraction.
- Choose a color that you know compliments your skin tones. If you're not sure, think of the clothes you wear that you receive compliments on. Usually, you look good in them because their color brings out your best facial tones.
- Because velvet material absorbs the light the color of the outfit may be different in the finished portrait.
- The color of the clothing should always be toned down. Bright colors attract attention away from the face. Any kind of pattern - no matter how small, may become a distraction.

What kind of clothing should I wear?
- Avoid Short Sleeve Clothing and Short Pants When arms and legs are exposed to the camera there will be more flesh in the photograph in those areas than on the face, itself.
- Dress in simple, soft fabrics that follow the body's natural contours. Avoid baggy clothing and abundant lace or frills, which can be overpowering.
- Traditional styles will stand the test of time and keep your portrait looking fresh for years to come.
- Some poses will show your shoes so don't forget to make sure they match and they're clean.
- Careful pressing of clothing is more important than how new it is. Photographs do not show the age of the clothes, but they will show wrinkles.
Tips for GIRLS.
Make-up - Make-up for photographs should only be slightly heavier than normal. Too much make-up tends to give you that painted look, too little might not show off your features. A loose translucent powder is helpful to eliminate shine especially for oily skin. Since most portraits concentrate on the eyes, great care should be taken to make them perfect. Avoid using excessively bright colors and mascara should be neat and without clumps.
Clothing
- Bring the colors and outfits you feel best in. If you like an
outfit, it's probably because you look good in it!! Some things
to avoid are stripes, bold patterns and prints that distract, bright
floral's and clothing with words on it. Denim always photographs
well, as do solids, primary colors and black and white.

Tips for GUYS.
Clothing
- Make sure that your shirts are pressed to avoid wrinkles. Denim,
white, black and solid earth tones almost always look good. Casual
clothing allows you greater variety as well as expressing your personality.
Things to avoid: Bold stripes and patterns, prints that distract,
neon colors and clothing with any wording on the front.
